The EmancipatorUNDERSTANDING HEAVENS AND EARTH
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
— Genesis 1:1
Notice from our verse above that the heavens and the earth were created in the beginning by God. There are some important presuppositions here to note. The first is that God was before the beginning. That is why at the beginning He was there to create. Secondly, the heavens are not His original dwelling place. For before their creation, He was and lived in His realm (1 Kings 8:27). Thirdly, the heavens and the earth were created as one domain with two distinct but interrelated realms. This is what many have lost sight of, yet a careful study of the interface of the earth and heaven in Genesis 1:6-19, reveals that the earth and the heavens are in the same space of the firmament that divided the waters from the waters.
